Open and distance teaching universities
Open and distance teaching universities performing on the range of criteria listed below:
a. primary mission is LOF learning in distance HE;
b. integrated in the formal HE structure of the country of origin, fulfilling all national requirements of quality assurance and accreditation;
c. originating from Europe or neighboring countries that signed the Bologna Declaration;
d. willing to participate and initiate programmes, projects and task forces on EADTU level.

Associations or consortia of conventional universities
Member Associations can differ strongly. Some form a national council for distance higher education, mainly giving advice to their members and representing them at the national and European level. Others develop learning materials with the members or organize distance higher education and deliver degrees jointly, sometimes with (international) partner universities.

For those universities that want to become member of EADTU, but miss the structure of an Association we allow them as a starting point for new member associations. Single university membership is applicable for those universities that are performing on the range of the following criteria.
