Aims and objectives The Group is committed to the development of library and information literacy services as an essential element in innovative and cost-effective approaches to learning. The Group provides a forum and a focus for those responsible for library and learning support services within member institutions. It aims to address strategic issues as well as seek to identify, disseminate and encourage good practice in supporting both on campus and distance learners. By these means the Group will seek to promote equal access to library and learning support for citizens throughout Europe.
The Group's objectives include: • to take a pro-active lead in promoting learning resources and learner support as integral elements in innovative approaches to learning; • to publicise the crucial importance of library and learning support services in the strategic development of new learning opportunities; • to stimulate awareness among library and learning support staff of the needs of learners and of innovations in teaching and learning and their implications for learning support; • to stimulate, identify and promote new ideas and best practice and to establish standards through research or collaborative projects; • to facilitate networking between library and learning support professionals and to encourage exchange of experience; • to promote partnerships among institutions to develop library and learning support services in support of open and distance lifelong learning; • to liaise with other organisations nationally and internationally which share common objectives, and to represent the needs and interests of library and learning support staff at international, national, regional or institutional levels as may be appropriate.
