During the M-2009, the European Student Council for Open and Distance Learning was created.

The mission of the European Student Council ODL is to keep an open line of communication between European students and all the aspects that affect the student experience. The general principles of the council will be the maintenance and promotion of equal opportunities, education quality and transparency. Their aim is to help to develop a Europe without barriers for distance and blended learning students as stated in the Bologna Declaration.

The students of this council are representatives of the Open Universiteit Nederland, Open University United Kingdom, Hungarian E-University Network, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and the FernUniversität Hagen.
